Check Out Some Hope for Wildlife Videos!Local band Lonewolf Country wrote a beautiful song in support of us! It's called "Hope (Can Make the Eagle Fly Again)". Not only that, but they came out to Hope for Wildlife and shot their music video right on site! They recently had a release party for the video and it raised $700! We are truly honoured - thanks George Wolf and to the whole band! ____________________________________________________________________ We received a call about a Canada Goose with an injured wing and he was unable to fly. The tricky part is that he was paddling around on a lake. Rescues are sometimes complicated, requiring us to climb things, crawl under things, and even doing a lot of patient waiting for the appropriate moment. Water rescues add another dimension, because we often need multiple rescue volunteers to coordinate, gather gear and equipment, and be available on a specific day to catch an animal far more at home on the water than we are. As you can see, our team is very experienced at it. ____________________________________________________________________ Our orphaned baby beaver has graduated out to one of our marine units! Beavers use their claws to comb through their fur, removing debris and helping to clean the fur, which helps keep the fur in good working order for them to remain warm and waterproof. They have glands which produce an oily substance which they rub all over themselves - it acts as an aid to waterproof the coat. Proper grooming is so important that their back feet have special double-clawed grooming nails that they use like pliers to remove burrs, stubborn parasites, and matted fur. ____________________________________________________________________ Enrichment is all about providing animals with opportunities to express their natural behaviors and engage in stimulating activities. This can be both physical and mental stimulation, both of which are crucial for their well-being, health, and development. Puzzles or tasks that require an animal to think and learn new behaviors are great for keeping their minds sharp. Raccoons are naturally curious animals that love investigating new things. In the wild, their ability to adapt and to solve problems is a huge part of their survival strategy, whether it's figuring out how get to a food source, or in finding a new warm, dry den to sleep in. This little guy learned that there's sometimes a better way to get the food. ____________________________________________________________________
