VISITING VOLUNTEERS - TRAVELLING TO VOLUNTEER WITH US
Thank you for your interesting in helping our local injured and orphaned wildlife!
While we can’t accommodate everyone, Hope for Wildlife often welcomes volunteers who are able to contribute a short amount of time at our rehabilitation centre during a stay in the area. If you're travelling to Nova Scotia and would like lend a hand, please read the details below to learn more.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to participate.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer accommodations for visiting volunteers, including space for RVs, trailers, or tents. If you're looking for nearby lodging, our address is 5909 Highway 207, Seaforth, Nova Scotia. The closest major city is Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
You will need your own transportation, as there is no public transit available in our rural location.
We ask for a minimum commitment of four weeks, with volunteers scheduled at least three days per week.
To ensure proper scheduling, we require at least two months’ notice prior to your anticipated arrival.
Volunteer shifts are typically seven hours long and run from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
During shorter stays, we cannot guarantee placement in a specific area, but common tasks include feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages and enclosures, facility cleaning, laundry, and basic groundskeeping. All volunteer roles involve some level of physical activity, including lifting. Good physical stamina and overall health are important.
You’ll be working both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of seasonal weather conditions.
English fluency (spoken, read, and written) is required.
Please note: Pets are not permitted on the property.
